LIK: Love Insurance Kompany, starring Pradeep Ranganathan, has opened to a modest yet promising start at the box office, buoyed largely by youth interest despite receiving mixed critical reviews. The science fiction romantic comedy, directed by Vignesh Shivan, appears to have struck an early chord with urban audiences, particularly in Tamil Nadu.

On its opening day, the film registered an overall steady occupancy across key centres, with Chennai leading the charge. The capital city recorded around 37 per cent occupancy across 416 shows, indicating a reasonably strong turnout for a non-holiday release. The film's futuristic premise set in 2040, combined with its romantic and comedic elements, seems to have piqued curiosity among younger viewers.

Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, the performance has been mixed but encouraging. Coimbatore logged an occupancy of 27 per cent across 134 shows, while Madurai followed closely with 25 per cent from 63 shows. Notably, smaller centres such as Trichy stood out with a strong 50 per cent occupancy, albeit from a limited number of 17 shows, suggesting good word-of-mouth in select pockets.

In Salem and Pondicherry, the film maintained a decent momentum with occupancies of 34 per cent and 40 per cent respectively. However, some regions like Vellore and Dindigul saw comparatively lower footfall, reflecting a more cautious audience response.

Outside Tamil Nadu, the film's reach appears limited. In Bengaluru, occupancy stood at a modest 12 per cent across 231 shows, while cities like Mumbai and Trivandrum also reported similar figures, indicating that the film is yet to gain traction beyond its core Tamil-speaking audience. Kochi performed slightly better with 19 per cent occupancy, though still below expectations.

Produced on a budget of approximately ₹60 crore by Rowdy Pictures and Seven Screen Studio, LIK: Love Insurance Kompany features an ensemble cast including S. J. Suryah and Krithi Shetty, alongside popular supporting actors such as Yogi Babu. The film's genre blend and unique storyline have been points of discussion, though its mixed reviews could influence its performance over the weekend.

With evening and night show data yet to be fully consolidated, trade analysts are cautiously optimistic about an upward trend, particularly if positive word-of-mouth among younger audiences sustains.
