Kavya Maran's Coolie Connection: Did You Know Her Father Is The Producer of Rajini Film?

Internet favourite Kavya Maran, known for her viral IPL moments, has kept a low profile since the 2025 cricket season ended. Recently, she quietly resurfaced at the audio launch of Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Coolie.

The reason for her presence? Coolie is bankrolled by her father, media baron Kalanithi Maran. While cricket fans know her from Sunrisers Hyderabad's dugout, many outside Tamil Nadu may not realise that her father is one of India's most influential entertainment moguls.

Kalanithi Maran, founder and chairman of the Sun Group, heads one of the country's largest media conglomerates with interests spanning television channels, newspapers, weeklies, FM radio, DTH services, a film production house (Sun Pictures) and two cricket teams - Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa's T20 league. He also briefly owned a major stake in airline SpiceJet between 2010 and 2015.

Sun Pictures, the film arm of the group, has delivered blockbusters like Enthiran, Sarkar, Petta, Jailer, and Raayan, and distributed hits such as Singam, Mankatha and the Kanchana series.

Kavya Maran Coolie Event

At the Coolie event, Kavya kept a low-key presence while the spotlight shone on the film's power-packed stage, featuring Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna and Upendra.

Speaking at the audio launch function, Kalanithi Maran revealed that Rajinikanth had urged Kavya to buy the best players for her Sunrisers Hyderabad and the team managed to win the IPL trophy.

"During audio launch of Jailer, it was Rajinikanth Sir, who advised us to buy the best of players for Sunrisers Hyderabad. We followed his words and bought some of the most aggressive players in the world, and we now hold the record for the highest team score, and also the fastest scoring rate. Our tremendous team has started to break records already much like how Rajinikanth Sir is doing with his films." Maran stated.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the mega-budget film hits theatres on August 14 and has already raked in over ₹80 crore from advance bookings alone.

Now serving as Executive Director of Sun TV Network, Kavya Maran appears to be steadily stepping into her father's shoes - whether in the boardroom or the limelight.
