'Kanguva' OTT Rights: Suriya's Film Sells For Record Price, Beats Ajith's 'Good Bad Ugly'

The highly anticipated Suriya starrer 'Kanguva' has been making waves even before its release. After an extended period in production, the latest buzz surrounding the film is that its post-theatrical OTT rights have been secured by Amazon Prime Video.

As per the trade reports, the leading OTT platform has bought the digital rights for a staggering Rs 100 crore. This deal covers all language versions of the film and has shattered previous records, surpassing the Rs 95 crore fetched by Ajith's upcoming movie 'Good Bad Ugly'.

This is said to be the highest-ever amount paid for the rights of a Suriya film.

In comparison, the digital rights for Vijay's 'GOAT' were sold for an even higher sum of ₹110 crore. However, the hefty price tag for 'Kanguva' highlights the immense anticipation and confidence in Suriya's star power and the film's potential.

Directed by Siva, 'Kanguva' is a period fantasy film that was initially slated for an October 10, 2024 release, timed with the Ayudha Pooja celebrations. However, the film's release has now been postponed indefinitely after the announcement that Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' will be hitting theaters on the same day.

The new release date for 'Kanguva' is yet to be confirmed.

The film, directed by Siva, also features Bollywood actor Bobby Deol in a negative role, with Disha Patani playing the female lead. The ensemble cast includes Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, KS Ravikumar, and others, adding to the film's star-studded appeal.

With such a strong lineup and the massive OTT deal, 'Kanguva' is set to be one of the biggest releases in recent times, further cementing Suriya's position as a leading star in Indian cinema.
