Suriya is back with his latest venture 'Kanguva', easily the biggest-ever budget made in his career. He has collaborated with Siruthai Siva of 'Veeram' and 'Viswasam' fame.

It is a multilingual movie which has Bollywood actor Bobby Deol in an important role. Disha Patani will be seen in the female lead while Redin Kingsley, Natarajan Subramaniam, Kovai Sarala, Vatsan Chakravarthy, Anandaraj, TM Karthik, G Marimuthu, Deepa Venkat and others in the supporting roles.

The movie has Devi Sri Prasad's music, Vetri Palanisamy's cinematography and Nishadh Yusuf's editing.

The story takes on a dual timeline: an ancient tribal warrior's intense battle is mysteriously linked to a modern cop's mission, merging a tale from 1,500 years ago with present-day suspense. Drawing on Tamil history and Indian mythology, Kanguva weaves a tapestry of ancient culture and mythical storytelling that promises a rich visual and narrative experience, say netizens.

Suriya delivers a commendable performance, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his character. However, despite his efforts, the clumsy execution of the story overshadows his portrayal. Although there are some notable action blocks and moments, the film struggles with pacing, often falling flat and lacking the emotional depth essential for a narrative of this scope. While the first half holds some promise, the second half loses momentum, making it hard to stay invested in the unfolding story.

The background score, while impactful in certain scenes, feels overly loud and inconsistent, diminishing the intended emotional resonance. On a positive note, the production values are solid, contributing to the film's impressive visuals.

Venky Reviews: #Kanguva is a below par fantasy action film that had a story with good potential but is executed in a clumsy way.

Surya does well in his role and his efforts should be appreciated but it's hard to save a script like this with just a performance.

The film has a few decent blocks here and there but the rest in between is very flat. The emotional connectivity needed for a film like this is completely missing. Director Siva holds the screenplay together partially in the first half but loses it in the second which makes it hard to sit through after a point. BGM works in few places but is too loud and not impactful in others. Production values are good.

Kappan C Palal: #Kanguva one time watchable flick. Nothing extraordinary. 2nd half helped to save the movie but still many drawbacks. Many illogical scenes are there and they literally test our patience. #Suriya is amazing but the rest of the cast are below par. And of course a little cameo!!

Film has a few good starting blocks and the periodic introductions sequences came out well. However, after a certain point the film becomes over the top and irritating. DSPs bgm is a hit or miss and too loud at times. Surya as Kanguva is good.
