Kangana Ranaut's directorial debut, Emergency, in which she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has faced a significant setback. Originally scheduled for release on September 6, 2024, the film's release has been postponed.

Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency': Release Delayed - Here's Why

The postponement of the film was announced by trade analyst Taran Adarsh on X (formerly Twitter). Adarsh shared, "#BreakingNews... #Emergency postponed... Won't release on 6 Sept 2024. #ZeeStudios #KanganaRanaut." As of now, no statement has been released by Kangana Ranaut or the production house, Zee Studios, regarding the new release date. Additionally, Manikarnika Films, the production company behind the film, has yet to provide a public comment.

The delay follows a video released by Kangana Ranaut on August 30, 2024, on her social media platforms. In the video, Ranaut claimed that Emergency had not yet received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), despite earlier indications that it had. Ranaut alleged that the film's certification was delayed due to severe threats against CBFC members, stating, "Kayi tarah ki afwahein ud rahi hain ki humari film Emergency ko censor certificate mil gaya hai. It is not true. In fact, humari film clear ho gayi thi lekin uski certification rok li gayi hai kyuki bohot zyada dhamkiya aa rhi hain jaan se maaar dene ki censor waalo ko (There have been rumors circulating that my film Emergency has been certified by the Censor Board. This is not true. While our film did receive clearance from the CBFC, the certification was delayed due to numerous death threats against members of the censor board)."

The controversy surrounding Emergency began following the release of its trailer. The Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal issued a legal notice to the CBFC, requesting that the film's release be halted. The objection stemmed from the film's portrayal of Sikhs, which was met with strong reactions from Sikh organizations.

The film features a prominent cast, including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in significant roles. The postponement of *Emergency* underscores the complex challenges faced in the release of politically and historically charged films.
