Kamal Haasan's Remuneration For 'Indian 2': How Much Did Ulaganayagan Get For Shankar's Film?

Kamal Haasan has received his highest-ever paycheque for his latest movie 'Indian 2,' a film that has been in the making for five years. The sequel to Kamal Haasan and Shankar's 1996 blockbuster 'Indian' is set to release this Friday.

'Indian 2' Budget
Reportedly, 'Indian 2' has been made with a budget of Rs 250 crore. The extended production timeline, which faced delays due to various reasons, significantly increased the budget. Additionally, the film features an ensemble cast including notable names such as Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and SJ Suryah, further raising the production costs.

Kamal's Remuneration For 'Indian 2'
Kamal was paid Rs 50 crore for his previous movie 'Vikram,' his first Rs 300-crore film at the box office. However, his paycheck has reportedly tripled for 'Indian 2.' Lyca Productions has allegedly paid him Rs 150 crore. However, insiders suggest he might have received around Rs 100 crore along with a share in the profits or digital rights.

Why the Higher Paycheck for 'Indian 2'?
Insiders say that actors usually increase their remuneration if the film is being dubbed or reshot in multiple languages. Since 'Indian' is a pan-India movie and the first installment was a massive hit, Kamal Haasan's salary has expectedly seen an increase.

Talking about the huge budget, Kamal Haasan, in an interview, said, "The budget was not just decided by the director and the script. COVID-19 decided our budget. Some of the accidents delayed the budget. The tenacity of the producer and the director must be applauded even before the film becomes a hit. It's very easy to let go if your hand is in pain. They did not do that. Not to let go of this child, not to orphan this child was a decision taken by Lyca and Shankar."

It is noteworthy that the initial budget of the movie was around Rs 150 crore. As per reports, director Shankar has received about Rs 50 crore for his work on the film.

Meanwhile, the stage is set for the release of 'Indian 2,' which will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
