Kalamkaval OTT Release: When Will Mammootty's Malayalam Be Out Online?

Mammootty's latest Malayalam release Kalamkaval continues to show steady momentum at the box office, nearly ten days after its theatrical debut. Backed by strong word of mouth and consistent footfalls over the weekends, the film has managed to hold its ground despite the usual weekday drops seen in the Malayalam market.

Kalamkaval Rocks At Box Office

On its tenth day in theatres, which fell on a Sunday, Kalamkaval earned an estimated ₹2.10 crore net in India. The film saw a noticeable rise in occupancy as the day progressed, a trend that has largely defined its theatrical run so far. Morning shows recorded an occupancy of just under 20 per cent, but footfalls picked up significantly by afternoon at nearly 38 per cent. The upward trend continued into the evening shows, which saw the highest occupancy of the day at close to 48 per cent, before dipping slightly to around 39 per cent during night shows.

The Mammootty-starrer opened to a strong start, collecting ₹5 crore on its first day, followed by an even better performance over its opening weekend. The film earned ₹5.5 crore on Saturday and peaked at ₹6 crore on Sunday, taking its three-day total to an impressive ₹16.5 crore. As expected, collections dipped sharply once the weekdays began, but Kalamkaval still managed to post respectable numbers through its first week.

By the end of Day 7, the film had collected ₹26.3 crore net in India. The second weekend helped stabilise its run further. After earning ₹1.65 crore on its second Friday, the film bounced back on Saturday with ₹2.1 crore, maintaining the same figure on Sunday. With this, Kalamkaval has amassed an estimated ₹32.15 crore net in India in ten days. Its worldwide gross has crossed the ₹50 crore mark, placing it among Mammootty's better-performing recent releases.''

The sustained interest in theatres has also fuelled curiosity among fans about the film's next phase after its big-screen run. Over the past few days, discussions around the digital future of Kalamkaval have gained traction on social media, with viewers keen to know when and where the film will be available for streaming.

SonyLIV has secured the digital streaming rights for Kalamkaval. While the platform is yet to make an official announcement, the film is expected to follow the standard OTT window for Malayalam releases, which typically ranges between 35 and 45 days after theatrical release.

Based on current timelines, Kalamkaval is likely to make its digital debut in early January, with January 8 or 9 emerging as the tentative window. However, given the film's healthy theatrical performance and Mammootty's strong pull at the box office, there is a possibility that the makers may opt to extend its cinema run slightly, pushing the OTT release by a few days.

Until then, Kalamkaval continues its steady march at the box office, benefitting from weekend footfalls and sustained audience interest across Kerala and key overseas markets.
