Kaantha OTT Release Date: Get Ready For Its Digital Release

The Tamil period drama Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, is poised for a digital renaissance as it finalizes plans for an OTT premiere. The film, which opened in theatres to a mixed audience response and underwhelming box office returns, is now preparing to find a wider viewership on a leading streaming platform.

Released in mid-November 2025, the film did not achieve the commercial success typically associated with Salmaan's projects. Despite this, it garnered appreciation from critics for its intricate plot, meticulous period setting, and strong performances. Kaantha marks the directorial debut of Bhagyashri Borse in Tamil cinema, under the mentorship of Selvamani Selvaraj, who is also credited as the film's co-writer and director.

A collaborative production between Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media and Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films, the movie also features Rana Daggubati in a pivotal role alongside a supporting cast including Samuthirakani, Ravindra Vijay, and Nizhalgal Ravi. The audio landscape is crafted by composer Jhanu Chanthar and background score specialist Jakes Bejoy.

Kaantha Story

Set in the cinematic world of 1950s Madras, Kaantha delves into the turbulent mentor-protégé relationship between a revered filmmaker, Ayya (Samuthirakani), and a rising star, T. K. Mahadevan (Dulquer Salmaan).

Their bond fractures when Mahadevan begins to assert creative control, culminating in his takeover of Ayya's dream project-which becomes the film Kaantha. Their artistic clash deepens into a severe conflict, leading to a mysterious death during the climax shoot. The narrative tension is further amplified by Raja Kumari (Bhagyashri Borse), who aligns with Ayya, and Phoenix (Rana Daggubati), a police officer investigating the ensuing mystery.
