K Bhagyaraj Passes Away At 73; Fans Mourn Tamil Filmmaker's Death

Noted Tamil filmmaker K Bhagyaraj passed away on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to reports in the Tamil media.

He was aged 73 and survived by wife Poornima Jayaram and children Saranya Bhagyaraj and actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj.

As per Sun News, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital on Chennai's Greams Road, where he passed away.

K Bhagyaraj was a multifaceted talent who was not just filmmaker but an actor screenwriter, and novelist known for making commercially successful, dialogue-driven films rooted in everyday life.

He was born Krishnaswamy Bhagyaraj in Tamil Nadu's Erode district, began as an assistant to Bharathiraja, made his directorial debut with Suvarilladha Chiththirangal in 1979, and later became one of Tamil cinema's most recognizable writer-directors.

He directed more than 25 films and acted in over 75, with notable works including Mundhanai Mudichu, Chinna Veedu, and Ninaivellam Nithya. He also wrote and edited, and several of his films were remade in other languages.

His last directorial movie remains Siddhu +2 which hit the screens in 2010. As far as the acting is concerned, he appeared in Dhanush's last year movie Kuberaa. '

However, he had desire to direct a movie.

His demise comes just a few weeks after the death of his guru and legendary filmmaker Bharathiraaja. In fact, he had paid his last respects at his residence.

His fans have expressed condolence over the death on social media.
