Neighbouring states, especially Karnataka and Kerala, have witnessed a strong initial response, underlining Vijay's massive fan base beyond Tamil Nadu.

However, Chennai and most parts of Tamil Nadu are yet to open bookings officially, leaving fans restless as social media fills with queries and speculation about when reservations will finally go live.

Censor Clearance Emerges As The Key Hurdle

Industry sources indicate that the delay is not due to technical or distribution issues, but rather pending clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Although Jana Nayagan has reportedly completed the censor screening process, the final Censor Certificate (CC) has not yet been issued.

According to insiders, the CBFC has suggested minor cuts and dialogue modifications, following which the film's makers approached the revising committee. The exhibitors are hesitant to open full-fledged bookings, particularly in Tamil Nadu where scrutiny is higher and stakes are enormous, Until it is cleared by the board.

Despite this, some theatres in Tamil Nadu are said to be considering opening online bookings as early as Monday, even without the certificate. However, this move carries the risk of last-minute edits or show reshuffles, something exhibitors usually prefer to avoid for a film of this scale.

When will advance booking begin in Tamil Nadu?

As per the latest buzz from trade circles, advance booking in Tamil Nadu is expected to begin today, or at least shortly. However, the makers have approached the Madras High Court, seeking the issuance of censor certification for the movie.

The case will be heard today afternoon.

While there is no official confirmation yet, exhibitors are reportedly on standby, ready to activate booking portals the moment the movie gets censor certificate.

If the certificate arrives without further delays, Chennai and other major centres in Tamil Nadu could witness a booking frenzy, with first-day-first-show tickets likely to sell out within minutes.

Karnataka sets the pace with strong pre-sales

While Tamil Nadu waits, Karnataka has already taken the lead in terms of advance sales. Booking in Bengaluru and other parts of the state has opened to an enthusiastic response. Nearly 240 shows have been listed on BookMyShow so far, with tickets being snapped up rapidly.

Popular theatres such as Sri Venkateshwara, Vaishnavi and Vaibhavi Cinemas, Swagath Shankarnag, Urvashi Theatre, Siddheshwara, and several others have already started reporting healthy occupancy levels, reflecting the strong demand for the film.

Pre-sales business snapshot shows strong momentum

Early pre-sales figures paint a promising picture for Jana Nayagan, even with limited bookings and block seats taken into account. Karnataka leads the chart with an estimated ₹2.97 crore gross, backed by 251 shows and a real occupancy of around 35%. Kerala, despite a lower occupancy percentage, boasts a massive 1,134 shows, signalling wide release and steady traction, as per Sacnilk data.

Tamil Nadu, despite booking uncertainties, has already clocked an estimated ₹1.12 crore gross, with 351 shows listed and an impressive 45% real occupancy, highlighting the pent-up demand in the state.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Delhi have also posted encouraging early numbers, suggesting that the film is building momentum steadily across regions ahead of its release.

As fans await official word on Chennai bookings, all eyes are now on the CBFC's final decision. Once the censor certificate is cleared, Jana Nayagan is expected to unleash a massive wave of bookings across Tamil Nadu, potentially redefining opening-day records.
