Jana Nayagan Advance Booking In Tamil Nadu: Makers of Vijay's Film To Approach Court

Advance ticket sales for Vijay's much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan have hit a roadblock, with theatres across Tamil Nadu holding back bookings due to pending censor clearance.

Censor Certificate Uncertainty

Although the film has completed its censor process, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has yet to issue the crucial censor certificate (CC). Industry insiders reveal that minor cuts and dialogue modifications have been suggested, and until these changes are finalized, exhibitors are reluctant to open bookings.

Leading critic Sreedhar Pillai noted, "6 days before release of Jananayagan and 7 days before Parasakthi, the theatres are yet to confirm the advance booking date. National multiplexes outside of Tamil Nadu are also finding it difficult to open bookings without CC."

Theatre and Distributor Concerns

National multiplex chains outside Tamil Nadu are also facing difficulties, as they cannot begin ticket sales without the CC. Overseas distributors are closely monitoring the situation, given the political undercurrents surrounding the film. Some theatres in Tamil Nadu are reportedly considering opening bookings online without the certificate by Monday, though this carries risks of last-minute changes.

At present, only Rohini Silver Screens in Koyambedu, Chennai, has started advance booking, while others remain cautious.

Vijay's political made his political entry with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The party plans to contest in the upcoming state elections. His criticism of the ruling DMK and the expectation of political messaging in Jana Nayagan have heightened speculation around the film's release.
