Bollywood Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi Jailed For 2 Years In Cheque Bounce Case

Ace filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, who delivered several hits in Bollywood, landed in a legal soup on Saturday. According to the reports, a Jamnagar court awarded two years in imprisonment to Rajkumar Santioshi in a cheque-bouncing case. Santoshi is set to make a comeback with Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta-starrer Lahore 1947.

The reports said the complainant against Santoshi was registered by Jamnagar's industrialist and shipping magnate Ashok Lal. He claimed that 10 cheques of Rs 10 lakhs each, given by the director bounced subsequently.

Talking to the media, Piyush Bhojani, the advocate of Ashok Lal confirmed 2 years imprisonment to ace filmmaker.

According to the advocate, Lal invested Rs 1 crore in Rajkumar Santoshi's film. Santoshi supposedly tried to repay Lal by sending him 10 cheques of Rs 10 lakh each. However, when Lal deposited these cheques in the bank, they bounced. Lal stated that he tried to reach out to Santoshi regarding this issue, but all his attempts failed. Subsequently, Lal filed a lawsuit under the Negotiable Instruments Act. In a recent court hearing, Santoshi was sentenced to two years in jail and ordered to repay double the amount owed to Lal.

Rajkumar Santoshi's next film, Lahore 1947, is in the works under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. It's a notable collaboration, as it marks the first time Sunny Deol, Santoshi, and Aamir Khan are working together. This project will also be the 17th venture by Aamir Khan Productions (AKP).

Previously, Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol joined forces and delivered three successful box-office hits: Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.
