Internet Divided Over Balakrishna-Anjali's Stage Incident: Overreaction Or Legitimate Concern?

Internet is divided over the incident involving Telugu superstar and politician Balakrishna and actress Anjali.

At the pre-release event of her upcoming Telugu movie 'Gangs Of Godavari', Balakrishna was seen pushing Anjali on stage. In the viral video, Balakrishna, when he reached the centre of the stage, he asked the film's actors, Neha Shetty (dressed in a grey ethnic outfit) and Anjali (in a saree), to step aside. Moments later, he pushed Anjali, nearly causing her to tumble. Anjali, along with Neha and others on stage, laughed it off.

His behaviour has come under severe criticism while many felt that he was being funny with her.

"Nowhere funny. It clearly looks rude," a user said. Another netizen added, "Ofcourse that was wrong! But why is she laughing? Should have pushed him back.. just like few days back person slapped back some politician."

The third user claimed that the victim should have taken a stand and could have simply left the stage.

However, a user tried to differ from the popular belief and said, "It's clear he was joking ..the way she and her co star laughed. Not every push is an abuse."

Another user added, "They are co-stars in one film... It's an act of fun between them.. they don't have any problem, but people try to make it an issue so that they can get a post in their page."

The third netizen stated, "She wouldn't have laughed this hard if it was an abuse !!! Are you saying you have never playfully pushed your friends?"

Responding to the comments which claimed that Anjali was smiling over Balaiyya's behaviour, one user commented, "She is smiling because of the embarassment and unexpected event you all. Is this that hard to understand. Have you all not beenin her situation? She would have been in tears if she didn't cover the emotions with a laugh."

Nonetheless, there are many who believe that the issue is being taken out of context.

"Unnecessarily making an issue out of nothing. This is not "abuse". It's a light hearted banter between two colleagues. Maximum it can be called maybe rude or off mark. But even so calling this "abuse" is not only unnecessary outrage, but it also discredits survivors of real abuse," the user said.

Another netizen added: "Wait a minute ... is this actually being taken out of context? What's the movie about? The actress genuinely thinks this is funny. I want to know more. Why is the crowd cheering? Why is she laughing? Why did he shove her? Be curious people. Do t just leap ahead w a conclusion when you don't know the context."

Even Anjali downplayed the incident by saying that she shares a great friendship with him.

In a post shared on X, she wrote, "I want to thank Balakrishna Garu for gracing the Gangs of Godavari pre-release event with his presence. I would like to express that Balakrishna garu and I have always maintained mutual respect for each other, and we share a great friendship from a long time. It was wonderful to share the stage with him again."

Despite the differing views, one thing is clear: celebrities should always be mindful of their public conduct to avoid misinterpretation.
