Ikkis OTT Release Update: Dharmendra’s Last On-Screen War Film To Stream Online On This Platform?

Sriram Raghavan's war drama Ikkis has begun its theatrical journey, but many viewers are already looking ahead to its digital release. The film carries special significance-not only does it introduce Agastya Nanda in a lead role, it also marks the final big-screen appearance of cinema veteran Dharmendra.

Released in theatres on January 1, 2026, Ikkis draws its emotional weight from real history. The film is inspired by the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest soldier to receive the Param Vir Chakra, and centres on his role in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.

Story Rooted in the Battle of Basantar

Rather than following a conventional war-film template, Ikkis focuses on a short but decisive chapter of history-the Battle of Basantar. The narrative tracks Arun Khetarpal's transformation from a young officer in training to a frontline tank commander, culminating in a final act of courage that defines the film's core message of duty and sacrifice.

Agastya Nanda steps into the role of Khetarpal after months of physical conditioning and military drills, according to reports. Industry watchers are closely tracking audience reactions, as this is his first major theatrical release.

Confirmed OTT Platform and Streaming Timeline

While the film continues to play in cinemas, its OTT release plan is already in place. As per details shared in the film's opening credits and reported by OTTplay, Amazon Prime Video has secured the digital rights.

Ikkis will follow a two-stage digital rollout:

Why the Film Skipped a December Release

Interestingly, Ikkis was initially lined up for a late-December 2025 release. Producer Dinesh Vijan later opted to move the date to New Year's Day, citing intense box-office competition during the festive period.

At the time, big-ticket releases like Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire and Ash were expected to dominate screens. The January 1 release was chosen to ensure Ikkis did not get overshadowed and had room to find its audience.

Dharmendra's Farewell Performance

Dharmendra plays Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal, the father of Arun Khetarpal, grounding the war narrative in personal emotion. For many viewers, the film functions as a farewell to the legendary actor, with screenings carrying an added sense of nostalgia and tribute.

The supporting cast includes Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikander Kher and Simar Bhatia, who help build the film's tense wartime environment. Following an early screening, Amitabh Bachchan praised the film's restrained tone and technical precision.
