Idli Kadai Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Dhanush's Film?

Dhanush-starrer Idly Kadai is hitting the screens on Thursday, September 30. This is his fourth directorial film after Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.

After Thiruchitrambalam, Dhanush has paired up Nithya Menen again. Arun Vijay plays an important role. Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, R Parthiban, Shalini Pandey, P Samuthirakani, Geetha Kailasam, Illavarasu, and others are part of the cast.

GV Prakash Kumar has scored the music for the movie which has been dubbed into Telugu with the title Idly Kottu. It has Kiran Koushik's cinematography and Prasanna GK's editing.

Story

While Shiva Kesavudu's (Rajkiran) entire world is his humble idli shop in Shankarapuram, his son Murali (Dhanush) yearns to escape his modest roots for a life of opulence. His ambition takes him to Bangkok, where he becomes a key partner in the AFC food empire, led by the formidable Vishnu Vardhan (Sathyaraj). Murali's success culminates in a proposed marriage to Vishnu's daughter, Meera (Shalini Pandey). But just as his dreams are within reach, a sudden turn of events compels him to return home, setting him on a path to understand and ultimately realize his father's legacy.

The movie has managed to garner good pre-release buzz. Will it live up to the viewers' expectations? Find out:

Siddarth Srinivas: #IdliKadai Interval: Lovely.
@dhanushkraja has chosen a simple storyline with a settled narration, but he has dipped it deep into the emotional value. Loved all the heartfelt scenes in the film, with Rajkiran feeling a Godly figure throughout. Dhanush has done well as a writer again, with his rural understanding being solid this time. As an actor, he is on point as well. Gets great support from @arunvijayno1 and @gvprakash who are both superb in their departments!
The bus sendoff scene, Arun Vijay's intro, the calf scene and the idli tasting scene - excellent moments in the first half. A very different star film indeed!

Venky Reviews: Idli Kadai A Mid Rural Drama that had a decent emotional setup up but wasn't able to capitalize and derails in the 2nd half!

The plot is simple and predictable, with its emotional core centered on the father-son relationship built around an idly shop. These emotional moments in the first half work decently, though they are melodramatic at times. Just when it seems the film will build on this setup, the second half shifts into a conventional hero-villain conflict that feels weak, stretched out, and lacks an impact.

The lead performances stand out. Dhanush once again delivers with conviction, while Nithya Menen and Rajkiran provide strong support. GV Prakash delivers apt music for the genre.

As a director, Dhanush manages to deliver some emotional moments, but the film as a whole falls short of being a complete engaging drama, weighed down by weaker writing in the latter half. Strictly Mid!
