'I Play Rocky' Peter Farrelly To Direct Sylvester Stallone's Biopic

'I Play Rocky' is going to be a movie about the early days of Sylvester Stallone's acting career, and how he managed to take the lead role in the film.

The movie is going to be directed by Peter Farrelly, according to Variety magazine. He's an eccentric director who has a wide filmography, ranging from early 90s comedies like Dumb and Dumber, to modern hits like Green Book. While most of his films fall under the comedy genre, Farrelly has the eye and ability to elicit strong emotions in his films as seen by his latest works.

It certainly assures the audience that while 'I Play Rocky' may have its humorous moments, it will not shy away from tackling the dark side of the events that Stallone had to go through in his young acting career.

The story is presumed to be mostly biographical, showing Stallone's struggles as a young actor. While no concrete details are revealed on the casting or the plot of the film, there's a good chance that the movie will explore many character-defining events of Stallone's life.

There's the event of his birth, which is when he actually got facial palsy due to complications with the procedure. That event, according to IMDb, is what gave him his crooked smile and iconic speech pattern. There may be references to his other earlier works like Italian Stallion (Formerly known as 'The Party at Kitty and Stud's'), a movie Stallone made out of desperation as he was homeless at the time and sleeping on a bus station.

The plot point of the movie, however, will most probably be how Stallone got his role in Rocky. Stallone actually wrote the script himself, being inspired by a boxing match between Mohammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, said Stallone himself in an interview. He rejected multiple offers for the script to be turned into a movie as he wanted the lead role for himself as well. That's probably where the title 'I Play Rocky' comes from, Sylvester Stallone's desire to play as Rocky.
