“I Considered Him My Husband”: Kunickaa Sadanand On Her Relationship With Kumar Sanu

Kumar Sanu, one of the most celebrated playback singers of the 1990s, has often been in the spotlight not just for his chart-topping songs but also for his personal life. Over the years, his name has been linked with several women, one of them being actress Kunickaa Sadanand, who is currently inside the Bigg Boss 19 house.

In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan during an earlier interview, Kunickaa opened up about her six-year-long relationship with Kumar Sanu. According to her, they treated each other as husband and wife. Their first meeting, she recalled, happened in Ooty by chance while she was busy with a shoot, and Sanu was on vacation with his sister and nephew.

Kunickaa shared that their bond deepened during a troubling evening when Sanu, after getting heavily drunk at dinner, broke down emotionally and even attempted to jump from a hotel window. "He was in deep depression. His sister, nephew, and I had to stop him. He was crying and suffering," she recalled. She said she calmed him down, reminded him of his responsibilities towards his children and career, and that moment created a strong connection between them.

After returning from Ooty, Sanu moved into a flat near Kunickaa's residence. From there, their relationship blossomed-she would cook and share food with him, help him manage his weight, and even select his clothes for stage performances. "I was like his wife and considered him my husband. We only appeared in public together during shows, but otherwise, we kept it private out of respect for his family," she explained, likening their relationship to that of Shakuntala and Dushyant.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn once Sanu's then-wife, Rita Bhattacharya, found out about the affair. Kunickaa recalled one particular incident vividly: "His wife smashed my car with a hockey stick. She would often come outside my house and scream." She added that Rita's anger was rooted in frustration over child support payments. "She wanted money for her children, and she wasn't wrong. She said she didn't want him back," Kunickaa said, sympathizing with her.

Eventually, the affair led to cracks in Sanu's marriage, with him moving out. Reflecting on that chapter of her life, Kunickaa reiterated, "I was like a wife to him. I considered him my husband. I supported him emotionally, helped him stay fit, and even handled his wardrobe during his peak years."
