Grammy Awards 2025 Likely To Be Postponed Due to LA Wildfires

The 67th Annual Grammy Awards, set for February 2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, might face delays due to severe wildfires. The city is currently grappling with these fires, overshadowing the usual glamour of this event. Discussions are ongoing about possibly postponing the show or turning it into a fundraiser.

Los Angeles has been battling multiple wildfires since Tuesday. The Palisades Fire, which started in Pacific Palisades and spread to Malibu and Santa Monica, is considered the most destructive in the city's history. It has destroyed over 5,300 structures across more than 20,000 acres. The Eaton Fire in Altadena and Pasadena has also caused significant damage.

Impact on the Music Industry

The fires have affected many in the music industry, from label staff to publicists for stars like Billie Eilish and The Weeknd. The Grammys require numerous hotel rooms for attendees and artists, complicating logistics further as many have lost homes or equipment. The Recording Academy is considering various options for the event.

Crypto.com Arena, home to the Lakers and Los Angeles Kings, has already postponed several games this week. "To focus on what matters most," stated the Lakers earlier. This decision reflects the city's current priorities amid ongoing disaster management efforts.

Possible Changes to Grammy Plans

A senior television executive mentioned that postponement seems likely due to the active fire situation and overall disaster status of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Harvey Mason Jr., head of the Recording Academy, is exploring different scenarios for proceeding with the event.

Plans are underway for a benefit concert before February 2 involving MusiCares, a foundation supporting music professionals in need. Live Nation, AEG Presents, and the Azoff family announced a January 30 event at Intuit Dome. Artists and broadcast partners are yet to be confirmed.

Wildfire Containment Efforts

Efforts to contain these wildfires continue tirelessly across Los Angeles County. As of Saturday evening, containment levels were reported as follows: Kenneth Fire at 90%, Palisades Fire at 11%, Eaton Fire at 15%, and Hurst Fire at 76%.

The Recording Academy has previously postponed the Grammys twice due to COVID-19 concerns. In 2021, it moved from January to March; in 2022, from January to April due to Omicron variant spikes. That year marked its first relocation to Las Vegas.

Community Impact

The fires have displaced thousands of residents who lost their homes. Many have shared their experiences on social media about how these fires impacted their communities. Celebrities like Mandy Moore and Paris Hilton are among those whose homes were destroyed by the blazes.

The death toll from these wildfires has risen to eleven people according to reports from Friday by Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office.
