Game Changer Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find Out From Viewers' Words

After delivering a rare flop movie in the form of Indian 2, Shankar is back with his latest flick Game Changer.

Shankar has made his debut in Tollywood with the movie which stars Ram Charan and Bollywood actress Kiara Advani. Anjali, Samuthirakani, SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Sunil, Jayaram, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Naveen Chandra, Brahmanandam and others in the cast.

S Thaman has scored the music for the music which is funded by Dil Raju. Interestingly, the movie has a story by Karthik Subbaraj of Pizza and Petta fame. It has Shameer Muhammed's editing and Tirru's cinematography.

Game Changer Story & Review

Ram Nandan, an upright IAS officer battling his temper, takes on corrupt politicians led by Chief Minister Bobbili Mopidevi, who crushed his father Appanna's vision of a corruption-free India.

Ram's crusade becomes personal when he faces off against his own twin brother, Charan, an IPS officer turned ally of Mopidevi, forcing him to confront not just systemic corruption but also the bonds of blood.

The Good
Ram Charan carries the film on his shoulders, delivering a standout performance, particularly in the 20-minute flashback sequence as Appanna, which serves as the emotional core of the movie. This segment captures the essence of Vintage Shankar, offering a glimpse of his directorial brilliance. Thaman's music, while occasionally loud, enhances the film's emotional and dramatic beats. The production values are commendable, especially in the song sequences, which are visually appealing.

The Not-So-Good
Unfortunately, Game Changer falls short in its overall execution. The first half feels lackluster, marred by a dull love track and ineffective comedy. While the interval block and initial portions of the second half promise much, the narrative soon devolves into a predictable political drama that overstays its welcome. The screenplay relies heavily on outdated tropes, offering little innovation in its portrayal of political and social themes.

Direction and Technical Aspects
Shankar's direction, once a benchmark in Indian cinema, seems below par here, with the film leaning on Ram Charan's charisma and Thaman's background score to stay afloat. Shameer Muhammed's editing and Tirru's cinematography are functional but fail to elevate the film beyond its formulaic framework.

Game Changer is a middling attempt that showcases flashes of brilliance but struggles to maintain momentum. While it is a step up from Indian 2, it lacks the finesse and depth required to be a memorable Shankar film. Ram Charan and the 20-minute flashback save the day, but overall, the movie is just a one-time watch.

Venky Reviews:#Gamechanger is a very ordinary political commercial entertainer that is carried completely by Ram Charan's performance and Thaman's BGM at times.

The first half is pretty mediocre with a boring love track and ineffective comedy but gets interesting leading up to the interval. The second half starts on superb note with a 20 minute flashback that reminds us of Vintage Shankar. However, after this portion, it again turns back into a run of the mill political movie that turns melodramatic and tiring towards the end.

The film uses similar tropes to many political movies in the past which gives it an outdated and tiring feel at times. The heart and soul of the film is a 20 minute flashback. RC is absolutely superb as Appana in this flash back and will remain as another feather in his cap. The rest of RCs character is a regular IAS role that is a cakewalk for him. Thaman's music is an asset for the film whenever it doesn't enter the overly loud mode. The production values are good especially in the songs.

This is easily better than Indian 2, however, it can't be considered as a comeback for Shankar as his writing and taking is below par and is completely carried by the music and Charan'. Just Ok!

Follows a predictable commercial pattern so far. A few IAS blocks have came out well along with an interesting interval block. The love story bores and the comedy is over the top and ineffective. Idlebrain Jeevi: Ram Charan rocks as Appanna in a role with speech-issues. One of his best performances.

Anjali has got an author-backed role. She is almost unrecognisable in the first scene she appears. Great make-up and good characterisation!

The scene in which Ram Nandan tells about the importance of IAS to politicians is clap-worthy.
