Forget Vijay-Sangeetha's Divorce Drama, His Jana Nayagan Censor Screening Postponed Again

Amid the drama around his divorce with estranged wife Sangeetha, the censor process of Vijay's upcoming movie Jana Nayagan has been further delayed, as per the reports in the Tamil media.

In the latest development of a burgeoning legal and bureaucratic saga, the scheduled screening for the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Revising Committee was abruptly cancelled today.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film was slated for a critical evaluation by the Revising Committee at 2:00 PM today. However, reports indicate the session was called off due to sudden health issues affecting several committee members. This postponement is just the latest in a series of hurdles that have kept the film in limbo since its original January 9 release date.

It comes at a time when Vijay's personal life is more in news than his much-delayed film. His wife Sangeetha has approached a family court in Chennai, accusing the actor-turned-politician of having an extramarital affair with an actress.

Rumours have been doing rounds about Vijay having a relationship with actress Trisha. They appeared together at a wedding in Chennai last week, which has added fuel to his divorce drama.

Coming back to Jana Nayagan troubles, the friction between the makers and the CBFC began ahead of its release. While the production house claims they implemented cuts recommended during a December evaluation, the process hit a wall when a committee member filed a formal complaint. The allegations against the film are two-pronged:

Religious Sentiment: Claims that certain scenes violate the sensibilities of specific religious groups.

Military Protocols: Allegations that the film utilized armed forces logos without the mandatory prior consultation or clearance.

In response to these claims, the CBFC Chairman moved to send the film to a Revising Committee. This prompted KVN Productions to take the matter to the Madras High Court in January. However, in a surprising development, the makers recently sought to withdraw their legal case, opting instead to navigate the CBFC's internal revision process to expedite the release.

Release Speculation and Production Details
With the latest delay, industry insiders speculate that Jana Nayagan will likely bypass a pre-election window, with a premiere now expected only after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

The upcoming movie has Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Prakash Raj in the key roles.

Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music, Sathyan Sooryan has handled the cinematography, and Pradeep E Ragav is the editor.

While rumours claims that the film is a remake of the 2023 Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari, a theory fuelled by trailer similarities, the team has yet to officially confirm the connection.
