Recent times have seen several Indian films facing bans in these countries due to storylines conflicting with their ideologies. Directed by Jeo Baby of 'The Great Indian Kitchen' fame, 'Kaathal - The Core' falls under this ban.

This marks the first collaboration between Mammootty and Jyotika for 'Kaathal - The Core'. The film's trailer, recently unveiled by the makers, piqued the audience's interest.

Just before its release, 'Kaathal - The Core' has been banned in Kuwait and Qatar. Reportedly, the movie touches upon the theme of homosexuality, serving as the primary reason for the ban.

The film is also slated to be showcased at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). A recently published synopsis sheds light on the storyline, revolving around George Devassy (Mammootty), a retired official living with his wife Omana (Jyotika), their daughter Ferni, and George's father Devassy. The plot takes a dramatic turn when, post-church rituals, George decides to contest in the Panchayat Elections, but soon faces an unexpected challenge. His wife files for divorce, alleging his years-long homosexual relationship with Thankan, a friend running a driving school in their village. The allegation sparks a controversy affecting George's candidacy, delving into society's politics and perceptions toward homosexuality.

Directed by Jeo Baby, 'Kaathal - The Core' is a Malayalam drama featuring Mammootty and Jyotika in pivotal roles. The screenplay is a collaborative effort by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. Produced under Mammootty Kampany, the film boasts music by Matthews Pulickan, cinematography by Salu K Thomas, and editing by Francies Louis.
