Everyone Knows What They Are Doing: Tamannaah On Shooting Intimate Scenes

Tamannaah Bhatia discusses her journey into OTT content, highlighting her decision to perform intimate scenes in Lust Stories 2 and Jee Karda. She emphasises breaking past limitations and exploring new creative avenues while appreciating the technical aspects of her craft.

Tamannaah Bhatia has recently opened up on filming intimate scenes in the OTT series, thereby breaking her long-maintained no-kiss scenes policy.

She was seen in intimate scenes with Vijay Varma in the anthology film Lust Stories 2. She also performed similar scenes in her web series Jee Karda, which led to criticism from some fans. Despite this, she explained that her move to OTT platforms was an effort to step out of her comfort zone and explore new creative avenues.

Breaking Boundaries

Tamannaah had previously adhered to a "no-kissing scene" clause in her contracts. However, she chose to break this rule when transitioning from big screen projects to OTT content. She expressed that performing bold scenes helped her understand the technical aspects of shooting such sequences and how they appear on screen.

Exploring New Horizons

The actress shared that she had not engaged in intimate scenes in her earlier works. Her decision to work in different formats was driven by a desire not to limit herself creatively. She wanted to explore various facets of acting without being confined by societal norms related to guilt and shame.

"For me also this was something new. I had done pretty much no intimacy in my previous works. I had largely worked in movies for the big screen and I had not done this. The idea for me to work in different formats was not to creatively confine myself... I can't do this, ek morality ke garb mein which I talked about guilt and shame and everyone wants to put you in that space... I wanted to explore different aspects of performances," Republic quoted the actress as saying in an interview.

The Experience on Set

Discussing the process of filming intimate scenes, Tamannaah mentioned the presence of an intimacy coordinator, director, cameraperson, and other crew members on set. She likened the experience to a choreographed routine where everyone knows their role. This structured environment made it easier for her as an actor.

Tamannaah further elaborated that understanding how these scenes are shot demystified them for her. It allowed her to focus on performance rather than obsess over the nature of the scenes. This insight helped her appreciate the craft involved in creating such moments on screen.

She added, "There is an intimacy coordinator on set, a director, a cameraperson, and hair, makeup and costume teams are also present. Its like lifting a cup and taking a sip. Its this constructed. Its choreographed. Everyone knows what they are doing. Its super well played out and everyone knows what they are doing. Everyone's spoken to and I think for me, when I was performing, just like how audience can't understand how its happening, as an actor also you don't know. When I shot whatever scenes I did, it demystified certain things for me and I didn't obsess over it anymore because I figured how its shot and how it looks."

Her journey into OTT content has been about embracing new challenges and expanding her artistic repertoire. By stepping into unfamiliar territory, Tamannaah aims to grow as an actor and explore diverse storytelling methods without being restricted by traditional boundaries.
