Empuraan OTT Release: Not Rs 100 Crore, Jio Hotstar Paid This Amount For Digital, TV Rights Of Mohanlal's Film
The wait is virtually over. The 2025's biggest Malayalam movie is ready for its digital release. Yes, we are talking about Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan which will hit the OTT platform on April 24. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the action thriller, which is a sequel to blockbuster Lucifer, was released on March 27.
While the first installment was made for the Malayalam audience, this flick had a pan-India release and it saw the light of the day in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages. Backed by solid promotion, Empuraan opened to a gigantic start at the box office and managed to strike gold.

In fact, the Mohanlal-starrer outperformed Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna's Sikandar. As per the trade reports, Empuraan had raked in Rs 266+ crore at the worldwide box office. As far as the India box office is concerned, it has earned Rs 124 crore while the overseas business stands at Rs 142 crore.
Empuraan Total Business
As per the makers, the total collection (theatrical and non-theatrical) stands at Rs 325 crore.
Empuraan OTT & Satellite Rights
While the movie has managed to do good business at the box office, the movie seems to have failed to get a big amount for the OTT and satellite rights due to the controversy around the movie.
If the rumours in the tinsel town has to be believed, the projected satellite and OTT rights for the movie was Rs 100 crore. Upon its release, the movie created a major controversy over the content. This has impacted its non-theatrical revenue as the combined collection of the OTT and the satellite rights have been sold for about Rs 60 crore.
However, the makers have not revealed the amount received by them for the satellite and OTT rights. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Subaskaran Allirajah, the Malayalam film also has Abhimanyu Singh, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran and others are in the cast.
