L2: Empuraan Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Mohanlal-Starrer; Find Out Here
Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal are back with the second instalment in the Lucifer trilogy as L2: Empuraan hits the screens on Thursday.
The action thriller, which also has Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier and others in the cast, has Deepak Dev's music, Sujith Vaassudev's cinematography and Akhilesh Mohan's editing.

Empuraan Story
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film continues the saga of Stephen Nedumpally, alias Khureshi Ab'raam (Mohanlal), as he navigates political turmoil and global conflicts.
The narrative unfolds with Kerala Chief Minister Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas) deciding to part ways with his party and align with the powerful Baba Bajrangi (Abhimanyu Singh), now known as Balaraj. His sister, Priyadarshini Ramdas (Manju Warrier), stands against this decision. Meanwhile, Stephen Nedumpally resurfaces, entangled not only in Kerala's politics but also in a dangerous rivalry with the drug cartel Kabooga. The film meticulously builds on these conflicts while exploring the deeper connections between Balaraj and Zayed Masood (Prithviraj Sukumaran).
Empuraan Review
While L2: Empuraan boasts impeccable direction from Prithviraj Sukumaran, the script could have benefited from more impactful moments. The political drama is engaging, but the action-revenge subplot leans on conventional tropes, lacking freshness.
Mohanlal once again dominates the screen with his undeniable presence. However, his portrayal feels a tad restrained compared to the mass appeal of his character in Lucifer. Manju Warrier, on the other hand, steals the show with her commanding role, delivering some of the film's most intense moments. While Tovino Thomas and Abhimanyu Singh hold their ground, some of the supporting cast fail to leave a strong impression.
Visually, the film is a spectacle, with grand locations, stunning cinematography, and lavish production design. However, the music by Deepak Dev does not quite match the scale of the film, missing the mark in elevating crucial sequences.
Final Verdict
L2: Empuraan is a film tailor-made for Mohanlal's fans and those invested in Kerala's political narrative. Though not without flaws, it succeeds in setting the stage for an explosive finale in the Lucifer trilogy.
What Netizens Say About Mohanlal-Starrer?
K A L K I: I came across this on someone's Facebook post, and it perfectly sums up my thoughts on #Empuraan.😊
E.M.P.U.R.A.A.N
The only thing it leaves us craving for is a high octane finish that Lucifer did. Apart from that, this one is a total banger, with never seen cinematic grandeur to malayalam cinema, sharp packaging of politics, drama and stardom. With enough whistle worthy moments, sequences that are goosebumps galore and sense of larger-than-life storytelling, this is a magnum opus that ticks most of the promised boxes. You can call me a crazy devotee or a blind fan, but that doesn't defy the fact that this one is a thoroughly enjoyable ride, either as a standalone film or as a midpiece installment to a trilogy that steps stone to the final.
Satisfied and waiting for the epic showdown in L3.
E.M.P.U.R.A.A.N - A worthy sequel 🤩👍
Yjenith: #Empuraan #L2Empuraan #L2E #L2EmpuraanReview Prithvi and Lal duo action scenes remind old Hindi Karan Arjun style movies💥 Manju Warrier as activist then becoming IUF leader 👏. Action and political elevations scenes are crafted in amazing spectacular again 👌🏽
Ananthan T J: #Empuraan One Word Review : Toofan🔥
A film that will set a benchmark for Mollywood for years to come! #L has once again proven he's the GOAT. Hats off to #Prithviraj the mastermind behind this epic masterpiece. Indian cinema will celebrate this masterclass frm Mwood🦉❤️ #L2E
Forum Reelz: #Empuraan A steady first half followed by a strong second half. Prithviraj excels in direction, while Sujith Vaassudev's cinematography is top-notch. Lalettan has limited screen time in the first half but gets more in the later half. The 'jungle pwoli scene' is a major highlight, with more clap-worthy moments for L fans in the second half. The surprise cameos add to the excitement. ❤️
ƒαιzι тωιтѕ ♡: #Empuraan - Prithvi cooked!! 🥹❤️
Decent 1st half followed by a very good 2nd half 👌🏻💥 Writing slightly lacks compared to the 1st part! KA-Zayed combo 🛐 Jungle fight was worth for the money 😭🔥🔥BGM 🥵 Manju warrier was superb, just ignore twitter go experience it!
3.5/5 ⭐
Mollywood BoxOffice: #Empuraan - Missed Opportunity 🦉
With the expectations and humongous presales #L2E had makers failing to satisfy was a big letdown.
Can't digest Murali Gopi changed the whole classy Lucifer into a template revenge drama. Music department was also underwhelming when compared to the predecessor.
Despite a solid Lalettan & 2 Good episodes, this was a Mixed Bag.
