Ektaa Kapoor Issues Statement: ‘No Association With ALTT Since June 2021
Following the government's recent decision to ban ALTT and 24 other OTT platforms over alleged vulgar and obscene content, producer Ektaa Kapoor has issued a public clarification distancing herself and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, from the platform. In an official statement, Ektaa asserted that neither she nor her mother is "associated in any capacity" with ALTT.
The statement, shared by Ektaa Kapoor on X (formerly Twitter), clarifies that both she and Shobha Kapoor had stepped away from any involvement with ALTT in June 2021.

The statement reads:
"Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization and following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary) duly approved by the Hon'ble NCLT, it operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025."
It continues:
"Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities, however, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ektaa Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and media is requested to report the accurate facts."
The statement concludes by affirming the company's legal compliance:
"Balaji Telefilms Limited is fully compliant of all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance."
The government's action impacted 25 OTT platforms-including ALTT, ULLU, Desiflix, Big Shots App, and others-for streaming content deemed obscene or sexually explicit. This action was taken under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and IT Rules, 2021, following consultations with various ministries and rights experts. Intermediaries have since been directed to block access to these platforms.
