Dragon Review: A Whacky, Entertaining Ride With A Powerful Punch
Ashwath Marimuthu's Dragon is an engaging and thoroughly entertaining film that blends humor, emotions, and relatable storytelling into a compelling cinematic experience. Featuring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, and Kayadu Lohar in key roles, the film delivers a mix of fun and intensity, making it a must-watch for fans of youthful, energetic cinema.
Plot & Execution

The film follows Raghavan (Pradeep Ranganathan), a young man with little academic success but a knack for deception and manipulation. Despite his flaws, he finds himself surrounded by unrelenting kindness-from his parents to strangers. His life takes a drastic turn after a breakup, pushing him into the high-stakes world of financial fraud. What starts as a pursuit of wealth soon spirals into a dangerous web of deception.
Ashwath Marimuthu, known for Oh My Kadavule, brings a mix of quirky storytelling and emotional depth to Dragon. The first half is filled with humor and a fun, relatable vibe, while the second half elevates the stakes, delivering some unforgettable moments. The final 30 minutes, in particular, hit hard, making the film stand out among recent youth-centric blockbusters.
Performances & Technical Brilliance
Pradeep Ranganathan is in top form, showcasing his comedic timing while also proving his growth as an actor. Kayadu Lohar makes an impressive debut, while Anupama Parameswaran shines in one of her most impactful roles since Premam. The supporting cast, including Mysskin, George Maryan, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, adds significant weight to the narrative.
Leon James' music is a major asset, with catchy songs and a surprise climax track that adds to the film's emotional heft. Niketh Bommireddy's cinematography and Pradeep E. Ragav's crisp editing ensure a visually appealing and well-paced experience.
Pros: Whacky humor, strong emotional core, excellent performances, engaging second half
Cons: Some exaggerated elements in the premise, but they work within the film's tone
Verdict
Dragon is a complete package-funny, emotional, and engaging, offering a solid theatrical experience. With its youthful energy, commercial appeal, and impactful storytelling, it has all the ingredients of a massive hit. If you enjoyed Love Today and Oh My Kadavule, this one is right up your alley!
