DMK Family-Owned Sun TV To Telecast Lord Rama's Epic 'Ramayana'; Gets Slammed
DMK family-owned Sun TV has come under attack after the release of a promotional video of the upcoming serial 'Ramayana', which tells the story of the Hindu epic centred around Lord Rama.
It comes at a time when the DMK has been criticised by the BJP and ring-wing sympathisers for constantly attacking the Hindu religion. Notably, Chief Minister MK Stalin's son Udhayanidhi had triggered a major row last year for his controversial comments about the Sanatana Dharma.

Interestingly, the pro-DMK supporters as well as the BJP fans have slammed the DMK over its decision to air Ramayana.
"Unacceptable. Shameful. Sun TV is one of the main reason for proliferation of RSS ideologies in Tamil Nadu. Dravidar Kazhagam should immediately issue a press note condemning this saffronisation of Tamil audience. Now only jsr is met with ridicule, soon this disease will also become cool in Tamil Nadu. We shouldn't let that happen at any cost," one user expressed his displeasure over the telecast of the Hindu epic on the DMK family-owned channel.
"Don't expect this from Sun TV," the second user commented. "Ramayana on @SunTV. Business is business. Mind it," the third user remarked.
Another netizen claimed, "Let us rally against the treacherous business of Sun Company, which is trying to plant the symbol of Aryan domination in the Tamil land. Whoever grows up in the labors of the Dravidian movement, grabs power in the politics of Periyar, and thinks that he can tap into the roots of the politics of Tamil Nadu, he is our enemy.
Anyone who wants to promote Vadavar sectarian politics in Tamil Nadu is a traitor to our race.
Periyar's disciples are not dead! Our uncompromising comrades will face you in the field with black shirts. Tamilnama will give a proper answer to your stupidity of waiting till the election is over!!!"
However, there are people who thinks that the telecast of the said serial is being done keeping the 2026 polls in mind.
A netizen said, "Maran brothers and DMK first family already know the election result!"
The epic Ramayana tells the story of Lord Rama of Ayodhya and his wife Sita. It imparts the timeless principles of 'Dharma' or righteous conduct. Also it underscores the significance of love, dedication, mutual respect, selflessness, accountability, and fidelity in establishing a sturdy groundwork for marital bliss
A BJP supporter wrote, "The time has come to tear the Ramayana to shreds and dust off all the books written by Periyar, Ambedkar, Arignar Anna..!!"
Another user felt, "Probably to counter BJP in 2026 which is the most important election to them."
It may be recalled that Sun TV had aired Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayana' in 2008.
