'Deadpool & Wolverine' Popcorn Bucket Reveal; Trend Started By Dune 2

Ryan Reynolds, on his socials, like his YouTube channel and X account, recently posted a reveal of a unique popcorn bucket as a promotional video for his upcoming movie 'Deadpool & Wolverine'. His caption on X for the video read, "Years from now they will look back at 2024 as the year the War of the Popcorn Buckets began."

The video initially teases the reveal of the popcorn bucket, showing off its yellow and black plastic textures as Deadpool runs his hands across its surface. The popcorn bucket is eventually revealed to be the face of Wolverine, with his mouth acting as the hole from which the popcorn is stored and eaten. The bottom of the bucket reads 'Designed By Deadpool' in rough red-coloured writing.

The whole video is accompanied by the song 'Also sprach Zarathustra Op 30.', composed by Richard Strauss in 1894. The song is notable for its use in the first few notes of the '2001: Space Odyssey' theme.

Netizens had a mostly positive reaction to the promotional material, with many netizens also making sexual innuendos towards the bucket.

Deadpool's humour in his movies and comics tends to be aimed at adults so this video and its reception show that the crew behind the film aren't afraid to take risks in order to appeal to the adult fanbase of the film.

In response to this, Regal Cinema's X account also posted a teaser of their own popcorn bucket, with both accounts using the '#warofthepopcornbuckets'.

They are, however, not the only ones to use popcorn buckets as part of their promotional material. The movie that popularised the trend the most as of recent was Dune 2 with its 'Sandworm Popcorn Bucket'. Other movies that followed this trend include 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', 'The Marvels', and 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3'.

'Deadpool & Wolverine' will be released in Cinemas on 26 July, 2024.
