Darshan's Remuneration: How Much Does The Kannada Actor Charge For A Film? Deets Inside

Darshan, who has been arrested in the murder case of Renuka Swamy, is one of the highly-paid actors in Sandalwood. The Challenging Star, who started his career in 1997 in a small role in S Narayan's 'Mahabharata', has come a long way in his career.

Despite the controversy surrounding him, Darshan remains a major crowd-puller and one of the most bankable stars in the Kannada film industry. This raises the question of how much he earns per film.

Darshan's Remuneration

Senior journalist Ganesh Kasargod has revealed the figure that Darshan charges for a film. Speaking to TV9 Kannada, he said, "A producer had come to me. He told me 'I want to do a film with Darshan. I had made 'Porki' with Darshan so I know him well. So I asked the producer whether he could afford him. He asked me 'How much Darshan charges for a film?'I told him that I don't know about his current paycheque but someone said that he is charging Rs 22 crore."

He then asked 'how much we had to pay in advance to him. I will arrange.' I said at least you have to pay Rs 3 crore in advance,"

The journalist has revealed that Darshan had not taken remuneration for his debut movie as a hero as he considered the opportunity itself like a paycheque. "For the next 10 movies, his remuneration was not even 1 lakh...he himself had told me. Darshan told me that newcomers were getting more remuneration than me," Kasaragod added.

Is Darshan really getting Rs 22 crore for a film?

Darshan has never spoken about how much he charges for a film and always maintained that the producers pay what he deserves. However, the row between 'Robert' producer Umapathi and the actor over a property had given a hint that he might charge around Rs 25 crore.

In 2021, a controversy erupted when Umapathy claimed that Darshan sought ownership of a property he had purchased from Puneeth Rajkumar and Raghavendra Rajkumar on Residency Road.

Umapathy had acquired the property, but Darshan expressed interest in obtaining it from the producer. Umapathy said, "I had purchased it from Sandalwood's first family, and handing it over to Darshan would have given a completely different meaning to the issue."

Darshan, however, presented a differing account to the media. According to the actor, the producer had initially offered to sell him the property. "The producer himself had to lend me money, and if he intended to sell, I suggested he use the proceeds to transfer the property to me," Darshan claimed.

Somewhere during the process, Darshan had revealed that the matter started with Rs 25-crore deal. Hence, it is safe to say that the actor charges somewhere in the same range.
