Darshan’s 'Take Pride in Kannada' Clip Goes Viral As Shivaraj Kumar Slammed For Not Confronting Kamal Haasan
Actor Shivaraj Kumar is facing criticism for not countering Kamal Haasan's controversial claim that "Kannada was born out of Tamil" at a recent event. Adding fuel to the fire, an old video of actor Darshan, where he remarks that Kannadigas lack pride in their language, has resurfaced and gone viral.
What's In The Viral Video?
In the video, Darshan is heard saying, "Please take pride in your language. We don't have pride in our language like Tamils and Telugus. When Tamils speak Tamil or Telugus speak Telugu, we switch to their language. But do they speak in Kannada?"

This clip has gone viral at a time when Shivanna has come under fire for staying silent when Kamal Haasan made those controversial claims.
The controversy stems from Kamal Haasan's comments at the Thug Life audio launch in Chennai, where he referred to Shivarajkumar as 'family' and said: "Your language (Kannada) was born from Tamil. So you're part of that family."
Shivaraj Kumar was present at the event when Kamal made those claims. Moreover, in another clip, Shivanna is seen singing a Tamil song at an event related to Thug Life.
So, the fans of Darshan are using this clip to target Shivaraj Kumar.
However, Shivanna has responded to the controversy that "Kamal Haasan holds Kannada in high regard....he has only good things to tell about Bengaluru as well." Refusing to delve into the controversy, he stated, "Kamal sir knows what he has said, and he will give an appropriate response,"
Kamal Haasan's Controversial Comments
On the other hand, actor Kamal Haasan has refused to apologise to Kannadigas over the controversy where he claimed that "Kannada was born out of Tamil".
"It is a democracy. I believe in the law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda. I've been threatened earlier too, and if I am wrong, I would apologise, if I'm not, I won't...," actor and Kamal Haasan said on warning by the pro-Kannada groups on banning his movie in Karnataka.
