Blast Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Arjun Sarja's Tamil Film?

Action King Arjun, Preity Mukundhan and Abhirami-starrer Tamil movie has hit the screens on Thursday and met with highly positive reviews from the netizens.

Written and directed by Subash K Raj, the Tamil film is produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, Kalpathi S. Ganesh & Kalpathi S. Suresh. KGF fame Ravi Basrur has scored the music, Arun Radhakrishnan has handled the cinematography and Pradeep E Ragav is the editor.

Blast begins with a seemingly ordinary middle-class family - except they're all karate masters. Their quiet life is disrupted by a mining project and a corporate villain who unleashes his assassin to get things done. Subash K Raj's film mixes genres, balancing family drama with high-octane action. At its heart, it's about parents trying to raise a daughter in a society that constantly seeks to suppress her voice.

But as the villain steps in, the film slides into commercial entertainer territory, complete with corrupt politicians, incompetent cops, and laughably dim-witted goons. The trajectory is predictable, but the ride is wild.

A simple storyline with neatly written screenplay.. 1st hour of movie took much time to set things up & few scenes felt okayish .. fight sequences are really well made and highly entertaining Arjun, Preity & Abhirami did great job 🔥🔥

Last hour full of back to back action scenes.. engayum bore adikala, just 1 song in start of movie and no romance in this movie..🙌🏻🙌🏻 o personally felt background score could have been better 😅

A non-stop family rollicking action thriller which is enjoyable from debutant Subash K Raj.

What makes it tick is the perfect casting - 'Action King' Arjun shines as the head of
family consisting of wife (Abhirami) & daughter (Preity Mukhundan) skilled in martial arts. Their lives take a twist and are thrown into danger as they encounter a deadly set of villains

Action scenes are superbly choreographed especially the female action scenes. Ravi Basrur's BGM elevates mass moments.

Story is wafer-thin and it's a series of action scenes that holds it together. Overall a brisk, engaging, time pass entertainer.

What The Fuss: #Blast Review - Watchable!

The film is about an ordinary family placed in an extraordinary situation. The first half takes its time to settle and ends with a promising interval block. The second half moves at breakneck pace, with action sequences coming one after another. After a point, this feels redundant, and a cheesy sentiment scene is incorporated unnecessarily during an action block, which does not add much to the film. That said, Blast is not boring. The action blocks are well choreographed and the cinematography complements them effectively. Music by #RaviBasrur is adequate, though the frequent English rap tracks feel purposeless, and the loud BGM is his trademark.

#Arjun nails his role by underplaying, which allows space for #PreityMukhundhan to shine. She is excellent as Arjun's daughter, showing vast improvement in her acting skills and impressing in the action scenes. #Abhirami is good as Arjun's wife, while Prasanna delivers neatly in the action block he gets. There are many villains, three main ones with a large gang, but only Arjun Chidambaram makes an impact. The other two feel like templates and exist just for the sake of it. The director could have written their roles and arcs better.

Overall, Subash K Raj has delivered a decent action movie in his debut.

One of its kind action thriller that smartly blends all the predictable masala tropes with martial arts style action to deliver a kick-ass entertainer. Called it one of its kind action film because this template will definitely inspire more films but not sure if they'll work as entertainingly as this one. Full marks to the action choreography. Rajasekar: #Blast - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Newcomer Subhash K Raj has pulled off something impossible. An action film with plenty of high moments and mass elevations without a superstar . Of course, Arjun is there but he is not his prime stardom but Subhash has believed in his screenplay and characterisations to make this one a solid action bonanza.

Studio Flicks: A sweet volatile surprise. Looks like Tamil Cinema in 2026 doesn't miss to enthral audiences even without bigger star-cast.

While watching this film, one thing was assured - not every mass film needs a superstar and big face values to work. When a director's idea is substantial, and the narrative is done with sincerity including good casting, decent performances, and hard work of technicians, it will eventually impress the audiences.,

Action King @akarjunofficial has been doing this for decades. He yet again impresses with mind-boggling action blocks.
@PreityMukundan absolutely owns the screen. Fierce, commanding and easily one of the film's strongest takeaways.
Hats off to @abhiramiact brings an unexpected flavour, and she keeps shining with uttermost devotion towards her performance in every scene.
@actorvivekpra role is perfect, and his performance is commendable.
Special mention for @RaviBasrur musical score for elevating the action-packed and emotional moments with his work.
Overall, #BlastMovie is a neat and convincing entertainer that will not disappoint you.

The Karate family -@akarjunofficial, @abhiramiact and @PreityMukundan looks straight out of a comic book and they are sure to win ur heart & impress with their hardwork. Good action scenes, impressive bgm by @RaviBasrur and slick presentation makes it a good weekend watch.
