Bigg Boss 19 Episode 11 Sued for Using Songs Without License, Seeks Rs 2 Crore

Bigg Boss remains one of India's most entertaining and controversial reality shows. Legal disputes and police cases have often surrounded the show, and this year is no exception. The Hindi version of Bigg Boss Season 19 is reportedly facing a lawsuit for Rs 2 crore.

Lawsuit Over Song Usage

Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) has issued a legal notice to the makers of Bigg Boss. The dispute involves the use of songs Chikni Chameli from the film Agneepath and Dhat Tere Ki from Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in Bigg Boss 19 Episode 11 without obtaining prior permission. Sony Music India, which owns the rights to these tracks, is represented by PPL in the notice.

The organisation is seeking Rs 2 crore (around Rs 20 million) in damages and licensing fees from the show's makers. They have also alleged that the producers, Endemol Shine India, used the music recordings without obtaining the required public performance license.

The use of these songs without proper licensing is considered a deliberate violation of copyright rules. PPL is demanding compensation for financial losses and unpaid licensing fees. It remains unclear whether the parties will settle the issue out of court in the coming days.

Who Is Responsible?

Some reports indicate that Endemol Shine India may not be directly liable, as the song selection reportedly falls under Jio Hotstar's promo team. The notice raises questions about whether Jio Hotstar will respond and take responsibility for the legal dispute.

According to reports, the legal notice was served on 19 September, and the makers of Bigg Boss 19 have yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
