Veteran South Indian actor B Saroja Devi passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 87. She succumbed to age-related ailments at her home in Malleswaram, as reported by news agency PTI. Known for her illustrious career, she was affectionately called Kannadathu Paingili in Tamil and Abhinaya Saraswathi in Kannada.

Khushbu Sundar, an actor-politician, expressed her grief on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "An era of golden cinema comes to an end. #SarojaDevi amma was the greatest of all times. No other female actor in south has ever enjoyed the name and fame as her. Such a lovable adorable soul she was. Had a great rapport with her. My trip to Bengaluru was incomplete without meeting her. And whenever in Chennai, she would call. Will miss her immensely. Rest in peace Amma. Om Shanti. #SarojaDevi."

Legacy of Kannada Superstar

Saroja Devi's journey began at 17 with the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa (1955), earning her a National Award for her debut performance. Her collaboration with MG Ramachandran in Nadodi Mannan (1958) solidified her status as a top actress in Tamil cinema. Despite marrying in 1967, she remained a sought-after figure, particularly in Tamil films.

Industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai remarked on X, "#SarojaDevi (87) the yesteryear popular actress passed away in Bengaluru. In the golden era of south Indian cinema she ruled! Who can forget the romantic MGR-Saroja Devi pairing in blockbusters like Enga Veetu Pillai, Anbe Vaa etc?"
