'Article 370' Review
As the title indicates, 'Article 370' revolves around the abrogation of Article 370 by the BJP-led NDA government. The movie delves into the intricacies surrounding the revocation of Article 370 on August 5th, 2019. Yami Gautam has enacted the role of NIA officer Zooni Haksar, while Priyamani will be seen in the role of Rajeshwari Swaminathan, the figure responsible for assigning Zooni the task of repealing Article 370. Presented in six parts, the film meticulously unfolds the events leading to the abrogation.
Beyond a mere retelling, 'Article 370' delves deep into the circumstances that led to the decision, illustrating how the escalating violence in Kashmir prompted the government to revoke J&K's special status. Eschewing patriotic clichés, the film opts for a compelling narrative that informs and engages without relying on familiar tropes. Penned by Aditya Dhar and Monal Thaakar, the film prioritizes its narrative, allowing it to shine amidst standout performances.
Yami Gautam brings a fiery intensity to her portrayal of Zooni Haksar in the film, reminiscent of her previous roles in 'A Thursday' and 'Oh My God 2.' While her character appears consumed by anger, it's evident that her journey is more about professional obligations and personal redemption than solely a response to Kashmir's turmoil. On the other hand, Priyamani's Rajeshwari Swaminathan offers a stark contrast as the epitome of calmness and poise in addressing the crisis. Her performance is captivating.
