AR Rahman To Reunite With His Ex-wife Saira Banu?
The unexpected news of AR Rahman and Saira Banu's divorce has left fans in disbelief. After nearly 30 years together, the couple announced their separation, leading to widespread speculation about custody arrangements and potential reconciliation. Prominent lawyer Vandana Shah discussed these issues with Vicky Lalwani on his YouTube channel, providing insights into the ongoing situation.
In a joint statement, the couple requested privacy during this challenging period. They expressed that despite their deep love, significant emotional strain had created an unbridgeable gap in their relationship. The statement read, "After many years of marriage, Saira and AR Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate. Despite their deep love for each other, they have experienced significant emotional strain in their relationship. The resulting tensions have created an insurmountable gap, one that neither feels capable of bridging at this point."

Possibility of Reconciliation
Vandana Shah did not dismiss the possibility of reconciliation between Rahman and Banu. She stated, "I am an eternal optimist, and I always talk about love and romance." She acknowledged that while the joint statement highlighted pain and separation, it did not entirely rule out reconciliation. Shah emphasised that a lot of thought had gone into their decision but remained hopeful for a positive outcome.
The couple's three children – Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen – are also part of the ongoing discussions. Vandana mentioned that custody arrangements are still being deliberated. "That's not decided yet… But some of them are adults; they are free to choose who they stay with," she explained.
Alimony Discussions
When asked about alimony matters, Vandana refrained from commenting directly but praised Saira's character. "She is not a money-minded person," she noted, highlighting Saira's low public profile throughout her marriage with Rahman.
The announcement was made in two parts: first by Saira in a personal statement and then through a joint release. Later, Rahman confirmed their separation via a tweet using a hashtag. Their lawyer confirmed that both parties aim for an amicable divorce prioritising respect and understanding.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu married in 1995 and have shared nearly three decades together. Their decision to part ways was attributed to "significant emotional strain" within their relationship. Despite this challenging time, both have expressed a desire to handle the situation with dignity.
This development has sparked discussions among fans worldwide about whether reconciliation might mend their long-standing marriage or if they will continue on separate paths.
