Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt's Daughter Shiloh's Name Change Ad 'Necessary': Expert

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's name-change petition appeared in a newspaper, highlighting the legal steps she must.

This public announcement was not for show but a necessary part of the process, as confirmed by a legal expert.

California-based family law attorney David Glass explained, "She has to file a formal petition with the court to change her name. And she has to run an ad 4 weeks in a row before the hearing is scheduled, in addition to giving both of her parents written notification."

This ensures compliance with California law, reported Hindustan Times.

The legal expert further mentioned that such petitions are usually granted if the person filing them doesn't have a criminal history or isn't trying to evade punishment. Shiloh's case seems straightforward under these conditions.

Shiloh initially filed for the name change on May 27, her 18th birthday. Months later, she published a petition in The Los Angeles Times to remove "Pitt" from her last name, showing her commitment to this decision.

Glass noted that Brad Pitt could oppose the petition by arguing that his daughter is being alienated against him by Angelina Jolie. However, since Shiloh is no longer a minor, she can essentially call herself whatever she wants.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share six children: Maddox (22), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), Pax (20), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16). Their relationship has been strained since their separation in 2016.

An insider told PEOPLE that Pitt knew about Shiloh's decision and was upset. The source said, "The reminders that he's lost his children are not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It's very sad."

Reports suggest that other Jolie-Pitt kids might also be distancing themselves from their father's name. Zahara, Maddox, Pax, and Knox reportedly aren't using "Pitt" either.

The requirement to publish the name-change request in a newspaper ensures transparency and allows any objections to be raised before the court hearing. This step is crucial unless the change is related to gender identity.

Shiloh's younger sister Vivienne appears to have taken similar steps according to The Outsiders' programme. This indicates a broader trend among the Jolie-Pitt siblings regarding their father's surname.

The ongoing developments highlight the complexities within the Jolie-Pitt family dynamics post-separation. Brad Pitt's limited contact with his adult children contrasts with his visitation rights with his younger kids.

The public nature of Shiloh's petition underscores her determination while adhering to legal requirements. This move reflects broader issues within high-profile families navigating personal decisions under public scrutiny.
