Anaganaga Oka Raju Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Telugu Film?

Naveen Polishetty returns to the big screen this Sankranthi with a light-hearted entertainer that leans heavily on his trademark wit and impeccable comic timing. Paired opposite Meenakshi Chaudhary and directed by Maari, the film arrives with the promise of festive fun rather than cinematic fireworks - and largely delivers on that modest ambition.

The story revolves around Raju (Naveen Polishetty), a once-privileged man who has fallen on hard times. Having tasted luxury in his earlier days, Raju now finds himself scraping by, bruised not just financially but emotionally too. His desperation to regain dignity leads him into a bizarre and convenient marriage with Charu (Meenakshi Chaudhary), a woman whose wealth - or lack of it - becomes the biggest question mark of the narrative. Is Charu truly rich, or has Raju walked into a cleverly laid trap? That lingering doubt fuels most of the film's comic situations.

Maari keeps the plot intentionally simple, relying more on situational humor and performance-driven comedy rather than complicated twists. This works in the film's favour, especially in the first half, which is breezy, lively, and filled with laugh-out-loud moments. Much of this credit goes to Naveen Polishetty, who once again proves why he is considered one of the most bankable comedy performers in Telugu cinema today. His dialogue delivery, expressive reactions, and effortless body language make even routine scenes engaging.

Meenakshi Chaudhary plays Charu with charm and confidence, holding her own opposite Naveen. While her role doesn't demand extreme emotional depth, she fits well into the film's playful tone. The supporting cast - including Rao Ramesh, Tarak Ponnappa, Goparaju Ramana, Chammak Chandra, Ananth Babu, and others - add colour to the narrative, often stepping in to elevate scenes that might otherwise have felt flat.

Visually, J. Yuvraj's cinematography keeps things bright and pleasant, complementing the film's festive mood. Mickey J. Meyer's background score supports the comedy well, though the album itself feels underwhelming for a Sankranthi release. A few memorable songs could have given the film more repeat value.

The second half, however, is where the film slightly loses momentum. With a thin storyline, the comedy starts feeling repetitive as it moves toward the pre-climax. Some scenes stretch longer than necessary, and a few gags fail to land as effectively as earlier ones. Thankfully, the climax pulls things back together, offering a neat and satisfying wrap-up.

Overall, this is not a groundbreaking comedy, but it is a serviceable festive entertainer that knows its strengths and plays to them. Naveen Polishetty's star power carries the film comfortably, making it an easy, time-pass watch for families and fans of lighthearted humour. Despite its flaws, it succeeds in delivering smiles - and that, for a Sankranthi release, is often more than enough.

The film has a very simple and ordinary plot. What works in its favor is Naveen's timing, effective one-liners, and some fun blocks that land well. The first half is mostly entertaining, while the second half also holds, it starts feeling dragged towards the pre-climax due to the thin plot and redundant comedy. However, the climax is handled decently.

Naveen once again proves why he is one of the most entertaining actors today. He carries the film from start to finish and is a delight to watch. The album could've been better for a film of this nature.

A festival season film that succeeds in entertaining despite some hiccups in the second half. Can give it a try.
