UP Board Exams 2026: 52 Lakh Students To Write In 8,033 Centers

On the final countdown to one of the world's largest academic exercises, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially activated its high-tech nerve center. On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Minister of State for Education Gulab Devi inaugurated the centralized control room at the Board's headquarters, designed to monitor over 8,000 examination centers in real-time.

This digital fortress will coordinate information flow, monitor law and order, and deploy "flying squads" to any location showing signs of irregularity. The move comes just 24 hours before more than 5.2 million students are set to appear for their first papers.

The 2026 Exam Blueprint
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has meticulously planned the schedule to ensure a smooth transition between shifts. High School students will navigate 15 working days of exams, while Intermediate students will finish within 14.

A Shifting Demographic: Enrollment Trends
The 2026 cycle reveals a surprising trend: a significant dip in student participation. Total registrations stand at 5,230,297, reflecting a drop of over 2 lakh candidates compared to 2025.

Experts suggest that the sharp decline in Class 12 registrations-down by roughly 225,000-is a result of stricter anti-cheating measures and more rigorous verification processes that have discouraged non-serious candidates from enrolling.

Logistics and Security "Iron Curtain"
With fewer students, the Board has optimized its footprint, reducing the number of centers to 8,033. UPMSP Secretary Bhagwati Singh clarified that while the numbers are lower, the vigilance is higher.

Key Relief Measures & Rules:

Admit Card Grace: In a compassionate move, students who forget their admit cards may be allowed to sit provisionally for one paper, provided they produce a duplicate by the next exam.

Academic Over Legal: The Board has announced that while cheating will lead to strict academic disqualification, no criminal cases will be filed against students to protect their future careers.

OMR Precision: Class 10 students will use pre-printed OMR sheets for 20-mark objective sections. Any use of whiteout or erasers will result in an "Orange" OMR sheet, requiring the student to manually re-enter all data.
