CTET May Soon Include Maithili as Language Option: Report

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test is set for a key update as Maithili is likely to be added as an exam language. BJP MP from Darbhanga Gopal Ji Thakur has been quoted saying that this long-standing demand from Mithilanchal is close to being accepted, which could support Maithili-speaking youth in Bihar and other Indian states.

Currently, the CBSE CTET is conducted in 20 languages. These are English, Hindi, Assamese, Bangla, Garo, Gujarati, Kanada, Khasi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan and Urdu. The proposed inclusion of Maithili would expand this list and give more regional candidates a better chance.

CBSE CTET 2026 exam structure and paper pattern
