Undertrial prisoner attempts suicide in jail

Coimbatore, Sep 15: A 41-year-old undertrial prisoner, arrested in connection with vehicle theft cases, today allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat in his prison cell here.

Some co-inmates in the cell saw Senthilkumar taking a blade, which he had kept hidden in his pocket, and slitting his throat, police said.

Hearing about the incident, jail authorities rushed to the cell and admitted the prisoner, who suffered a cut injury, to the government hospital here. Senthilkumar was arrested for stealing motorcycles and lodged in the prison a month ago.
