YSRCP MP's Daughter Runs BMW Over Drunk Man In Chennai, Granted Bail

Another high profile hit-and-run case has surfaced, this time from Chennai.

Daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran her BMW over a man sleeping on a pavement. The 24-year-old victim, Surya, a painter, succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to a hospital by bystanders.

The incident took place on Monday night in Besant Nagar, Chennai. According to reports, the accused, Madhuri, was driving the high-end car, accompanied by a female friend. After the car ran over Surya, Madhuri fled the scene immediately. Her friend, however, stayed behind briefly to argue with the gathered crowd. She also left the site later.

Surya had been married only eight months ago. Relatives and residents from his colony protested at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station, demanding justice and swift action from the authorities.

The police investigation revealed crucial evidence through CCTV footage, identifying the car as belonging to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group and registered in Puducherry. Following this discovery, Madhuri was apprehended but was promptly granted bail at the police station itself, which has further fueled public anger and accusations of preferential treatment.

Beeda Masthan Rao, Madhuri's father, is a prominent figure in the seafood industry and a Rajya Sabha MP since 2022. He has also served as an MLA.

This incident comes shortly after another high-profile hit-and-run case in Pune, adding to the concerns over road safety and the perceived impunity of influential individuals.
