The DMK has fielded Ganapathi P Raj Kumar, who had served as the 5th mayor of Coimbatore city, representing the AIADMK party from 2011 to 2016. He assumed office succeeding SM Velusamy of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) after defeating his closest competitor, Nandhakumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Rajkumar, a graduate in journalism, completed his PhD thesis on the late J Jayalalithaa. His academic credentials and proactive role as a councillor drew the attention of Jayalalithaa.

In 2020, he switched allegiance to the DMK, citing alleged neglect by the AIADMK.

Who Is Ramachandran Govindarasu?

Ramachandran Govindarasu, son of former Singanallur MLA Singai Govindarasu, who was an MLA between 1991 and 1996. Appointed by the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in March 2016, Ramachandran served as the Secretary of the Information Technology Wing of the AIADMK and currently holds the position of President of the same wing.

He was appointed as the Secretary of the IT Wing in March 2016. Following the demise of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, he aligned with the O Panneerselvam faction, demonstrating his unwavering support.

He was expelled from the party by VK Sasikala in February 2017 over alleged anti-party activities. Following the merger of the two AIADMK factions, he was reinstated as the State Secretary of the AIADMK IT Wing.

He has already accepted the challenge as he responded to Annamalai's candidature with a post on X: "I am waiting @annamalai_k"
