Which Is Best City For Working Women In India? Bengaluru Beats Chennai To Secure Top Spot; Coimbatore Ranks 10
Bengaluru has beaten Chennai to secure the top two positions as the best city for working women in India in 2024, according to a report by workplace culture consultancy Avtar. Fasting-growing city Coimbatore is ranked at 10.
Bengaluru Outbeats Chennai

Bengaluru climbed from second place in 2023, achieving a City Inclusion Score (CIS) of 47.15, surpassing Chennai, which scored 46.31. In 2024, Chennai occupied the numero uno position.
The Garden Citys rise is attributed to its thriving IT industry, known for employing a significant number of women. Avtar's Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI) 2024 report evaluates cities on their potential to create gender-inclusive environments.
Launched in 2022, the TCWI index assesses 120 cities across India using metrics such as the Social Inclusion Score (SIS) and Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS). The SIS considers factors like livability, safety, women's representation in employment, and empowerment. The IIS measures inclusive industries, organizations, and career enablers.
Bengaluru excelled in industrial inclusion, with an IIS of 81.33, but its SIS stood at 36.72, placing third in social inclusion. While the city's robust industrial environment propels it forward, the report highlighted the need for improvements in social inclusion to strike a balance.
