The thrill of adventure is about to find a new home in Chennai. Wonderla Amusement Park - the name synonymous with laughter, speed, and sky-high excitement - is inching closer to unveiling its most ambitious project yet.

In an exciting update about the project's progress, Executive Chairman and Managing Director Arun Chittilappilly shared, "Our Chennai project racing soon to the finish. Thanks to my entire team for building this 600 cr behemoth, high tech park in a scanty 24 months."

While his latest post does not reveal the date of its launch, Arun had earlier revealed that the amusement park will open to public in December 15. With Christmas holidays around, the amusement park is expected to get good footfall.

Spread across a vast stretch of land in Chengalpattu district, the park is designed to be a game-changer for Tamil Nadu's leisure and entertainment landscape. With construction that began in 2023, the Chennai outpost is shaping up to be Wonderla's fifth park in India, following the success of its established destinations in Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Bhubaneswar.

A Monument to Engineering and Imagination

The upcoming park's showstopper is set to be India's largest roller coaster, a breathtaking creation from Swiss ride manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard. Costing a jaw-dropping Rs 80 crore, the coaster will rival those found in iconic amusement parks across London and New York, promising to redefine thrill-seeking in India. Its intricate design and towering loops will make it a landmark not just in Chennai, but across Asia.

Adding to the futuristic appeal, the park will also feature an elevated monorail system - a rarity in Indian amusement parks. Beyond ferrying visitors across the grounds, this attraction doubles as an experience in itself, offering changing views of the park depending on its speed.

And that's not all. Rising above the landscape will be a 35-meter Ferris wheel, whose elevated platform will lift riders to a height of 45 meters. From there, guests can soak in stunning panoramic views of the OMR corridor, a blend of coastal serenity and urban sparkle.
A Strategic Expansion into Tamil Nadu

For Wonderla Holidays, the Chennai park isn't just another project - it's a statement. "Our new park in Chennai now means that we have conquered all major South Indian cities," Chittilappilly remarked. "Tamil Nadu accounts for a large percentage of our footfalls, so it made sense to build a park here. We expect a 5 to 10 percent rise in footfalls for FY-26 - our Bhubaneswar park will also hit full capacity soon."

The move plugs a long-standing gap in Tamil Nadu's entertainment infrastructure, allowing families and thrill-seekers to enjoy world-class amusement experiences without crossing state borders.
