When Is Deepavali Holiday In Tamil Nadu? Get Ready For Long Weekend
In a welcome move for students and government employees, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a four-day weekend to mark the Deepavali celebrations.
Initially, October 31 was designated as a public holiday, but the government later extended the holiday period by declaring November 1 as a holiday as well.

The decision, announced on October 19, 2024, aims to accommodate the large number of students, parents, teachers, and government employees who travel back to their hometowns for the Deepavali festivities.
The additional day off will allow families extra time to enjoy the festival and make their return journey without the added stress of work commitments.
A government release said: "The government has declared 9 November as a working day to make up for the holiday."
To make up for this extended break, November 9, which falls on the second Saturday and is typically a bank holiday, has been designated as a working day for government offices. This adjustment ensures continuity in government operations while allowing employees the freedom to celebrate with loved ones.
