Water Level In Tamil Nadu Dams Today (Aug 5): Mettur Sees Increased Inflow, Sholayar And Aliyar Near Capacity
The Mettur Dam's water level On Sunday remained at its full capacity of 120 feet, with a storage level of 93.47 TMC ft. The inflow into the dam increased to 73,673 cusecs from 70,000 cusecs on Saturday.
Despite the rise in inflow, the discharge of water into the River Cauvery was maintained at 70,000 cusecs.

In addition to Mettur, the Aliyar Dam is nearly full, with a water level of 119.1 feet against its full capacity of 120 feet. The Amaravathi Dam is also close to full, standing at 89.05 feet compared to its full capacity of 90 feet.
Meanwhile, the Sholayar Dam has reached its full capacity of 160 feet.
Tamil Nadu's extensive network of dams plays a crucial role in managing the state's water resources. These structures are vital for water supply, drinking water needs, and electricity production.
The state has 116 large dams, with 78 managed by the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department (TNWRD). Notable dams like the Mettur Dam on the Cauvery River and the Vaigai Dam at the foothills of the Western Ghats are essential for agriculture, power generation, and water supply.
