Vijay-Sangeetha Divorce Case Adjourned Again; Court Sets Next Hearing For August

The divorce proceedings involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C Joseph Vijay and his wife Sangeetha were adjourned to August 7 by the Chengalpattu Family Court after neither party appeared before the court on Monday.

According to reports, the matter came up for hearing before the family court, but both Vijay and Sangeetha remained absent. The court subsequently postponed the case for further proceedings.

During the hearing, the judge questioned why a vakalathu, or authorisation for legal representation, had not been filed by Sangeetha's counsel. A petition seeking permission for appearance through video conferencing was also dismissed.

The court directed both the petitioner and the respondent to furnish their email IDs before the next hearing and adjourned the matter to August 7, 2026.

The case had previously come up before the court, with both Vijay and Sangeetha being represented by their respective counsels rather than appearing in person. Considering their public profiles, requests had reportedly been made seeking permission for participation through video conferencing, citing security concerns and logistical challenges. The court had then posted the matter to June 15 for further hearing.

Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court in December 2025, citing irreconcilable differences. In her plea, she also sought alimony and requested permission to continue residing at the couple's residence in Neelankarai.

The latest court proceedings come amid renewed speculation on social media about a possible reconciliation between the couple. Rumours circulating online have claimed that family members are attempting to help Vijay and Sangeetha resolve their differences and that the two may have resumed spending time together.

Some social media posts have further alleged that Sangeetha has returned to Chennai, fuelling discussion among fans. However, neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has publicly commented on the reports, and the claims remain unverified.

The couple, who married in 1999, have long been regarded as one of Tamil cinema's most prominent pairs. Their absence from public events together in recent years had sparked repeated speculation about their relationship.
