TVK Chief Vijay Takes Oath As Tamil Nadu CM, Here’s Full List Of New Cabinet Ministers

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C Joseph Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday in a grand ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Vijay at around 10 AM, marking a historic political shift in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony assumes significance as it marks the first time since 1967 that a non-Dravidian party has formed the government in Tamil Nadu, ending decades of dominance by the DMK and AIADMK.

The rise of TVK to power has reshaped Tamil Nadu's political landscape, with actor-turned-politician Vijay leading the party to a landmark victory. The event also symbolised a generational and political transition in the state, where Dravidian parties had remained at the centre of power for nearly six decades.

Ahead of the oath-taking ceremony, Governor Arlekar approved Vijay's recommendation for the appointment of nine ministers in the new cabinet, according to a release from the Lok Bhavan.

"C Joseph Vijay, Chief Minister-designate, has recommended a list of nine persons to be appointed as Ministers on May 9. The Governor has approved the recommendation regarding the appointment of the ministers," the release said.

The new TVK cabinet includes experienced political figures, party office-bearers and first-time ministers. Selvi S. Keerthana emerged as one of the notable inclusions, becoming both the youngest face in the cabinet and the only woman minister in the team.

Vijay Government To Face Majority Test Soon

Following the formation of the government, Chief Minister Vijay is now expected to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly through a vote of confidence on or before May 13.

The confidence motion will formally establish the TVK government's legislative strength after its landmark electoral breakthrough in Tamil Nadu.
