Tamil Nadu Budget 2024: Here Are The Expectations
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu will present the general budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 on February 19.
Subsequently, on February 20, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam is slated to present the agriculture budget, alongside other government-related activities.

On February 21, the assembly will convene for presentations of demands for supplementary estimates, followed by voting. Additionally, discussions on both the general budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 and the Agriculture budget for the same period will take place during both morning and evening sessions.
As the Tamil Nadu government gears up to unveil its budget, expectations are running high for significant announcements that could impact various sectors of society.
Among the eagerly awaited announcements is the extension of the 'Pudhumai Penn' (modern woman) scheme. Launched to empower girl students from Classes 6 to 12 in government schools, the scheme provides Rs 1,000 per month to support their pursuit of higher education. Speculation abounds regarding potential enhancements or expansions to this impactful initiative.
In line with electoral promises, the budget is also anticipated to address the issue of cooking gas subsidies. People await confirmation that a subsidy Rs of 100 rupees will indeed be provided for cooking gas cylinders, fulfilling a commitment made by the government.
Furthermore, there are speculations of additional benefits for citizens, including an extra kilogram of sugar per month for family cardholders at fixed-price shops.
Public demands have also been brought to the forefront, with calls for improvements such as additional bus services during school hours. Of notable significance is the persistent request for the reinstatement of the old pension scheme for government employees, a matter that has garnered considerable attention and anticipation.
