Three-Year-Old Girl Dies After Sexual Assault in Tiruvallur; Bihar Worker Arrested

A three-year-old girl, the daughter of a migrant couple from Bihar, died after she was allegedly subjected to a penetrative sexual assault in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district, sparking widespread shock and outrage. The local police have arrested a 19-year-old migrant worker, identified as Bipin Manjhi, also from Bihar, in connection with the crime. The incident took place in the Gummidipoondi area, where the child resided with her family.

The victim's parents are employed as laborers at a steel manufacturing unit within the SIPCOT industrial estate. The accused, who worked at the same facility, resided in the family's immediate neighborhood and had established a rapport with them. Reports indicate that Manjhi was a familiar figure to the family and would frequently interact and play with the child. According to investigators, the accused capitalized on this familiarity, allegedly luring the toddler away from her home by offering her biscuits.

When the child went missing, her family launched a frantic search, eventually discovering her in an isolated area nearby. She was immediately rushed to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, despite the best efforts of the medical team, the girl succumbed to her injuries.

Upon receiving information from hospital authorities, the police launched a swift investigation. The accused was subsequently traced and arrested. Senior officials stated that stringent legal action, including charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act, will follow as the probe progresses.

The brutal nature of the crime has triggered severe public backlash, with local communities demanding capital punishment for the perpetrator and more robust safety measures for children in industrial pockets. Joining the condemnation, Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, slammed the administrative lapses, demanding immediate justice and stricter monitoring of worker colonies. Further police investigations are underway.
